GOMBE

Kigoma, Tanzania

Gombe National Park is situated amongst many protected areas in Tanzania including the world famous Serengeti. The region is most notable for Dame Jane Morris Goodall’s pioneering research on chimpanzee behaviour. With the degradation of the chimpanzee habitat due to population growth and deforestation, coffee farming is seen as a way to support both human and chimpanzee populations.

This particular coffee is part of an ongoing project with Sustainable Harvest to promote better coffee quality and sustainable practices for all inhabitants.; farmers and wildlife alike.

Specifications:
The Kanyovu farmers have been improving their capacity building and quality practices since 2007 through the Sustainable Harvest program. In addition, a new planting programme was established with the introduction of 75,000 shade trees, along with traceability technologies at 10 washing stations.

This means safer habitats for endangered mountain gorillas, better conditions for farmers and more sustainably produced coffee for us.
